How to Use Jobs Sniper: Your Complete Getting Started Guide
Finding the right job is hard enough without manually refreshing Seek every hour. Jobs Sniper handles the grunt work — scanning, scoring, and notifying — so you can focus on applying smart instead of applying everywhere.
Step 1 — Configure your search
When you first open the dashboard, head to the scan settings at the top. You'll see two fields:
- Role — the job title you're targeting (e.g. "Test Lead", "QA Engineer", "DevOps Engineer")
- Location — the city and region (e.g. "All Sydney NSW", "All Melbourne VIC")
These two fields build the exact Seek search URL, sorted by most recent listings. Hit Pull latest jobs and Jobs Sniper will scan that URL, filter results by your keywords, score every match, and save them to your dashboard.
Step 2 — Upload your CV
Before generating any AI outputs, upload your CV under My CV in the dashboard header. Supported formats: PDF, DOCX, TXT, Markdown.
Your CV text is extracted and stored locally. It's used by the AI to:
- Compare your experience against job requirements
- Generate personalised cover letters that reference your actual background
- Build a CV improvement sheet for each role
You can update your CV at any time — all future AI outputs will use the latest version.
Step 3 — Read your fit score
Every job in your dashboard gets a fit score from 0-100 based on four factors:
| Factor | Max points | What it checks | |--------|-----------|----------------| | Keywords | 40 | How many of your target keywords appear in the listing | | Title signals | 20 | Does the title match seniority and role type | | Recency | 15 | Jobs posted in the last 7 days score higher | | Quality signals | 15 | Salary listed, company named, not a spam post |
A score of 80+ means the role ticks most boxes. Filter by "80+" in the score dropdown to see only your strongest matches.
Step 4 — Generate a cover letter
Click Generate cover letter on any job row. The AI reads the full job description and your CV, then writes a 150-200 word cover letter that:
- Opens with your most relevant experience
- References specific requirements from the listing
- Closes with a clear call to action
You can regenerate as many times as you like. Copy the final version directly from the dashboard.
Step 5 — Run a CV improvement sheet
Click Generate CV sheet for a detailed gap analysis between your CV and the job. You'll get:
- A fit score (how well your CV matches right now)
- A plain-English summary of what's missing
- Bullet-point suggestions you can paste directly into your CV
Download the full PDF report to keep as a reference.
Tips for best results
- Run scans daily — jobs posted in the last 24 hours have the highest response rates
- Import any job — paste any Seek or LinkedIn URL into the import bar to bring it in
- Re-fetch details — if a row is missing company or salary info, click "Re-fetch details" to scrape the full listing page
- Track your applications — use the Application dropdown on each row to mark jobs as Applied or Not applied
Happy hunting.
